Broken Escalator

15

On October 5th of last year, the escalators at West Edmonton Mall shut down simultaneously due to what was believed to be a series of mechanical failures, stranding thousands on the second floor. By the time a rescue operation could be organized and mounted, nearly everyone on the mall’s upper level had been killed, and to this day few people, if any, understand what really happened during the period when that area of the mall was cut off from the rest of the world. My name is Christopher Munroe, and this is the story of what happened to me. This isn't the whole story of what happened at West Edmonton Mall that horrible day, but it is my story. This is the story of the people I met, the things I had to endure, and the lengths I went to, to survive... a broken escalator.

    Horrifying in the best way
It's not a horror book, although it has those elements. It's a deep meditation on how modern life forces to accept commercialism in lieu of genuine human interaction. It further ponders our over reliance on systems of support given to us, and the fragility and absurdity of our decisions when we make them as a group, especially under trying circunstances. I have listened to this three times, and am now back to download these episodes again.

Don't give up on this story!
I almost bailed on this podiobook but I'm glad I didn't. I wasn't sure if this was supposed to be a comedy or a horror story at first...I mean, are people that stupid that they can't figure out how to walk down the steps or find alternate ways out of the mall? It was unreal...and I was starting to get annoyed at all those idiots stuck on the second floor. Luckily, Christopher Munroe is an enthralling storyteller with a real talent for voice acting, and that kept me tuned in through some of the most unbelievable parts. I'm glad I stayed with the story, because the last couple of chapters were a surprise that were well worth sticking around for. Christopher is very good at painting vivid pictures with his words...I could see the scenes he described in detail...and they were terrifying! I enjoyed this story a great deal...it helped my workday go by much faster :) I had to deduct a star because of the audio issues...the volume level isn't consistent throughout, and because I wear earbuds in a noisy environment, I have to turn the volume up to be able to hear the quiet portions over the loud machinery...only to be rendered nearly deaf by a sudden volume increase. Other than that, this is a very entertaining story. Funny at times, scary, gory and suspensful...but satisfying!

    It was aight
I've heard better, but have listened to way worst. Its worth the time I guess BUT has a kind of subpar ending. Its kind of predictable, as well.

    Good book, some audio issues
4 stars for writing, 3 for audio. Too bad I can't give a 3.5 rating. I enjoyed the book, but the audio quality wasn't too good. There would be sentences with severe volume changes. The first part of the book was pretty good (although the music and dr cymbal sound would randomly break in) and in the second part the musical break ins were gone but I had to turn my radio up a lot louder, which wouldn't have been too bad, but thee were still some parts I couldn't hear at all and others that caused me to jump when they suddenly shouted through the speakers. Writing-wise, the author did a good job.

    Funniest podcast around
While I don't know if this is a parody or not, it's by far the funniest thing I've ever downloaded from iTunes. It keeps me on the edge of my seat, downloading the next chapter. When will they decide to use them as stairs? When will someone call the fire department? Is this a satirical commentary about the sloth and irrationally sedentary lifestyle of Americans? The suspense!

    Hilarious!
I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a comedy or not but I am rolling on the floor. How do you get trapped on a floor with an escalator? A broken escalator is just stairs! Lol! What has society come too?
