Rex Rivetter: Private Eye

179

Rex Rivetter: Private Eye is a modern audio drama. The year is 1955. Tinsel town. The land of make-believe. It's a time of growth in American prosperity. Especially in Los Angeles. Here, dreams are bought and sold. But there's a seedier side to the City of Angels, the shadows where pimps and narcotics pushers live, where organized crime stands just around every corner with one hand out, and the other wrapped around a roscoe. It's a city full of fancy dames and slick cons, where bookies know the vig, so you better, too. Some folks call it noir or pulp fiction. But for a private eye named Rex Rivetter, it's home.

Always loved this show. I notice season 2 episode 2 is missing for some reason? The Case of Pete and Repeat part 2.

    Top-notch acting
Excellent stories and acting. I’d gladly pay for a subscription, if I could eliminate the LOUD, music that plays 5-10 times per episode. Wow. It is blasting and high pitched in earbuds.

    4 1/2 stars‼️✨
With wonderful sound design, direction, writing, and voicing Rex Rivetter: Private Eye makes for a beautiful noir audio drama with an amazing cast of personalized characters. Dave Rivas’ sound editing really works to make it feel as if you’re there with the characters in the scenes and the voice acting is just ah!👌🏻The writing is very well done to fit the certain characters (such as word choices and personalities) to allow it to feel more real. DS Entertain’s “side show” for Rex is a key insight into to the minds of the cast and crew members working with and of Downstairs Entertainment. Joe Fejeran is a quality candidate for interviewing those who appear on the show and it’s just overly fun to listen to the them ramble and laugh. There might be a lot more that I couple say about how much I love the characters and just everything about Rex Rivetter but then we’d be here for quite a long time. Lastly, don’t ask me to pick a favorite character.😁 I’d post fanart I’ve made if only my parents would let me get a Twitter..

    The show is pure nostalgia
I can’t get enough of this podcast, you really feel like your entrenched in a Sam Spade novel. Even the commercials of The first episodes are done in the style of old school radio. My grandparents would’ve loved this.

I love this podcast. There really is nothing like it out there with all the thousands of podcasts. I truly hope the series is going to continue because I find it one of the best!

    Can't get enough!
After listening to the first case, I was hooked! The writing is fantastic, the chemistry between characters is outstanding, and the audio quality is top notch. I can't wait for Season 3.

    Phenomenal!
What a wonderful show! I always appreciate shows that are story-driven, and the old-time radio feel to the serials is excellently integrated. The stories are smartly-written, gripping, and very engaging. The unusual take on Rex being the protagonist who isn’t a perfect good guy is very unique and makes for great audience interaction as they try to figure out what they think of Rex. Fantastic series! I’m a fan for as long as this show lasts!

    Lots of Fun!
Fun old-timey radio drama with a modern twist. The story and characters are a lot of fun and I like how the episodes are serialized and leave you in suspense after each episode... even when you are binging the podcasts. :) The music and sound effects bring you straight into the story. I love mysteries and these stories keep me guessing. The halftime ads are fun too when you hear the actors out of character. And I love how Facebook and The Twitter fit right in to the retro ads even though they are super modern. :) A Lot of fun and well worth tuning in. I can’t wait for more!!

Worth every second you’ll spend listening!
This is an extremely good Audio Drama! The writing, acting, directing, sound design, editing and every other piece that goes into this show is top notch. All that to say it is very evocative story that will make you have real emotional connection to the characters and then real emotions about what happens, I’ve caught myself cheering out loud for Rex, being genuinely angry with him, and other emotions I can’t get into without spoilers. It is a noire story modeled after the classics of the genre but has a story and flavor all it’s own. It’s found it’s way to my favorites list.

fun and funny - Well worth the time
This send up of OTR detective series is great. Its also very well produced which makes listening fun and easy, unlike some other offerings out there in the podcast universe.

    Great discovery
I always loved listening to Sam Spade, The Shadow, and lots of other old-time radio greats. It was a treat to find a modern incarnation of those shows. Rex is helping keep me sane -- escaping from the modern orange-tinged dystopia. Voices and production in Rex Rivetter are better than a lot of podcasts these days, too.

    Perfect
Rex Rivetter is probably my wife and I's favorite podcast to listen to together. From the first episode we were hooked, and it honestly gets better and better with each episode. The mysteries are...ummm...mysterious? The voice acting is spot on. Even the music is perfect for this noir detective series. We anxiously await Season 3!

    A Five Star Podcast
Now I know how my ancestors felt, sitting by the radio listening to The Shadow or The Great Gildersleeve. God bless everyone involved in this, and Neon Nights, for their inspiration, talent, and drive which led to their producing such brilliant programs. Their gifts are very much appreciated, and deserve much larger audiences. Better than most TV.

    Love it!!
This show is so good. It’s such an easy listen and keeps you intrigued. It’s funny and dramatic and a little sad. The quality is awesome. The voice acting is 2% over the top which you really enjoy and appreciate after about 3 mins into the first episode. The cases aren’t too predictable but aren’t a complete mess either. Looovveeee it!!!!

    Great fun & engaging
This is the first podcast that I have listed to and am loving it. I heard about Rex Rivetter through friends in the theatre community in San Diego as the podcast features lots of local talent. I'm catching up to the episodes by listening in my car. My only worry what I'll do when I've listened to all the available episodes, so I hope they keep making more! Great job. Amazing sound quality and sound design.

    Top Of It's Class!
If you like gumshoe detectives, gritty noir and the glory days of Los Angeles in the 1950's, this show is for you. It's dames and danger, old fashioned detective work with top quality modern production. The cast is an amazing collection of talented voice actors, the writing is spot on noir and the sound track is 100% authentic. It's a sonic time machine for your pod catcher! I just subscribed... You should to, if you know what's good for you.

    Four-Oh!
Or should I say "Five-Oh!"? Top marks for a show that's got skilled actors, fantastic writing, excellent sound design, and the...*the*...THE best theme song in the world! I was an instant fan and will continue to be one, as long as the writing-directing team of R and G McAfee, and the seriously cool performance of R Coull as our titular hero continues to put out these episodes.

This show as it all. Great sounds, great acting and a great story. A must listen! And I don't even like old-timey detective stories!

    Hugely Entertaining
I stumbled across Rex Rivetter a couple of months ago, and it only took one episode to get me hooked. I grew up on the old noir and detective movies, like Laura and The Big Sleep, and all the Alfred Hitchcock movies, and keep detective novels by Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler in regular rotation in my reading list. I also spend a lot of time listening to old radio shows that my grandmother had grown up on, and had copies of, so when I discovered that there was a podcast just like them, I couldn't resist. Rex Rivetter is just as rough around the edges as you'd expect, but he still has a heart of gold. His girl Friday, Genevieve, is smart and sassy, and the only reason that Rex can function on a day to day basis. Add to the mix some self-righteous cops, cold and calculating mobsters, and a gorgeous femme fatale or three, and you have all the makings of a first rate detective series. I just listened to the season one finale this morning, and I'm already listening to the whole show from the beginning, so I can stave off the inevitable withdrawal. Hands down one of my top five favorite podcasts. If you like the old detective stories from the 40s and 50s, then you can't afford to miss Rex Rivetter: Private Eye.

    Great podcast and great mysteries
I love it! This has become my favorite podcast, and I listen every week! Loving Lt. Burke! :)

    Pure Goofy Fun!
This show captures the feel of old time radio shows while simultaneously injecting the kind of humor that made George Burns and Gracie Allen famous. It's not a parody, it's an homage. The language is clean, film-noir gold: booze becomes "giggle-juice", and silly, on-point names become running gags. Keep up the great work, Downstairs Entertainment!
  • SabrinaM2014
    What a show!
It's modern day old time radio. I love it. What a fun concept. I can't wait for the next episode! Keep up the great work!

    Wonderful!
It is great to hear these old timey radio shows that I grew up listening to when they were re-broadcast on the old A.M. stations when I was a kid. I love the writing, the acting and the music of this cast. Thank you so much!

    Stop! Sit! Listen!!
Classic noir style, with great voice acting and all the fun, campy special effects sounds one would expect. Each week's episode leaves me waiting breathlessly for the next installment.

This takes me back to listening to the radio shows when I was growing up. Classic writing and Private "Dick" style! I can't wait for the next episode!

    This is Awesome!
Great writing, voice acting, and sound effects! As an avid listener to Old Time Radio, this reminds me of Boston Blackie, Sam Spade, or Johnny Dollar of yesteryear. For some old-fashioned radio fun with a new twist...I highly recommend it!
