Running #210

On this episode of Running Times, Gagz is joined in studio by friend and listener favorite, Eddie Gieda, along with ultrarunner and bearded wiseman, Michael Koehler. The trio dissect the cosmic forces that brought them together and ultimately led them to partake in the Howl Ultrarun, a 93-mile spiritual odyssey through NJ & NYC that celebrated the life and legacy of American poet and counterculture icon, Allen Ginsberg. Later in the conversation, Gagz updates the listeners with a few announcements that you won't want to miss!Michael is a local photography teacher and ultrarunner who has made the Wissahickon his schoolyard playground. Hear for yourself why Ultrarunning Magazine recently described him as the bearded, wizened soul who runs to a higher vibe. Eddie is a devotional runner currently ensconced in a 3+ yr streak averaging almost 11 miles per day. He runs for Diadora and is affectionately known as the Cosmic Shuffler. He is also the front man for An Albatross and a treasure within the Philadelphia Running Community. Please visit www.ultrarunning.com to read about the Howl Ultrarun. Grace, humility, encouragement.
It’s hard to cut through some of the mythologizing that comes with ultrarunning, the cult of personality and self-centered Ness that doesn’t leave room for others to join in. Gagz he’s offering his story and amplifying so many others that we need to hear as runners and more importantly as fellow humans. Each episode is a little blessing, grace humility and encouragement to go out and put in some extra miles. More importantly, to make sure I smile and offer kindness to everyone on the trail.

Never underestimate where running might take you!
When I was a kid I never thought I would become a runner or even finish a marathon. Once weighting in at 400lbs I know what its like not being able to run. Be positive, dream big, and keep showing up!!!!!!!! and listening to Gagz of course!

David Letterman of the Running World
No matter where you lie on the Running spectrum (new, experienced athlete, ultra runner, etc.) I’d recommend giving it a listen. It’s a great introduction to the Running community & the different people that are a part of it. Gagz facilitates an engaging dialogue with guests as if he is a seasoned pro; & somehow makes a podcast about Running not feel dry like you might assume a podcast about Running should be. If this is only Season 1, I can’t wait to hear what’s to come.

    Super enjoyable
If you like a charismatic host, interesting guests and atypical running topics this is the podcast for you! Gagz and his guests are great company on long run or long drive. And if you didn’t want to go run in Philadelphia before, you will after listening to episode six with Rebecca Barber.

Interesting Guests with a nice Philly touch
This podcast has a very good conversational flow. The guests share a wide range of interesting stories that don’t necessarily require the listener to be a runner. Plus there are many references to parts of Philadelphia, things happening in the city, and it’s surrounding area that you will not get on many podcasts. As a local it’s cool to have a familiarity with different places and things being discussed.

Gets right down to the spirit of running!
It’s a great listen if you want to get inside the mind of an ultra marathoner and guests who provide their own inspiring stories.

    For those saved by running
I loved this podcast, as a decades long runner, what Eddie and Gagz talked about resonates with me. Running can change your life, if you let it. I’m looking forward to more from Gagz and guests.

    Powerful and Engaging
I can already tell this is going to be a staple in my rotation based off the first episode alone. Didn’t expect to be crying and laughing while running down South Street, but here we are. 10/10
